Honeymoon Memoirs

New York was beyond awesome. Here's a very rough day-by-day play-by-play of our fun-filled week there, complete with cheesy slideshows (just click on the arrow in the middle of the pictures and watch 'em go!)

Friday 07/27/07

  1. Dropoff Frank at Grandma’s
  2. HHH Airport, ate freezerburned buffalo chiggen things @ Fletcher’s Wharf, got 1 free brewski from Gretchen because food sucked
  3. Arrive at JFK. Boarded subway, emerged 20 minutes later on 57th and 7th, passed Rays, Liquor Store and Carnegie Hall
  4. Arrived @ Manhattan Club, checked in
  5. Walked down Broadway, passed Letterman and had a cow
  6. Saw Times Square
  7. Walked to Ray’s and had sassige and pepperoni  pizza and beer drinks
  8. Walked around some more, bought 6 pack of Coors Light and pretzels for $12 at Café 54
  9. Came back to Manhattan Club, sucked down beer, showered and passed out

Saturday 07/28/07

  1. Went to Columbus Circle for photo fun, went down to take subway to Annex Flea Mkt
  2. Stumbled upon Museum of Sex. Went in. Was interesting. Good photo ops in entryway. Saw video of girls who pretended to be ponies. People who liked to dress up as giant stuffed animals. Creepy. Saw teste-sack get inflated and huge. Very creepy. I didn’t watch, Goldie did. Walked upstairs to watch porn in public for first time. Interesting.
  3. Walked down 5th St to Cheap Jack’s Vintage Clothing and drooled.  Was given siteseeing tips by very gay bald latino man with mayo on his lip and his “business partner” behind counter.
  4. Walked back to hotel to drink and relax, and shop for other tattoo place. Created expense report and became briefly depressed at amount of money already spent but hey, it’s a honeymoon. Money should be spent.

Here's Saturday's photos:

Sunday 7/29/07

  1. Woke up LATE
  2. Got on bus and cruised to Fun City Tattoos. Pouring rain commenced while on bus. Of course our umbrellas were sitting back at the hotel room. Fun City was closed when we arrived… more like Sad City.
  3. Stopped at Love Saves The Day nostalgia/gift shop and it was the coolest thing ever. Lots of old KISS stuff. That was our Fun City for Sunday. The rain kept coming down.
  4. Lunch at Ryan’s Irish Pub, complete with authentic Irish waitress who called ketchup “tomato sauce”. Guy who lived upstairs left his bath running and it leaked through the floor, so big chunks of their ceiling were falling as we were dining on our fesh and cheps. Nice place.
  5. Hit up all music stores I wanted to and they all pretty much sucked.
  6. Took carriage ride through Central Park. Man named Ron and his horse Lisa were waiting on 59th and 7th and jumped on us. Took awesome, humid ride thru South Central Paahk with Ron narrating throughout.
  7. Walked to Serendipity3 and overate ice cream and cake. $8.50 per person minimum. Oy vey!

Sunday Slideshow:

    Monday 7/30/07

  1. 9:00 Waited in line for Letterman tickets
  2. Went to Natural History Museum. Lots of dioramas. Went to MOMA after, saw some Picasso and experienced weird smell on 5th floor. Girl was passed out from fumes with feet on wall. I think she was milking it.
  3. Back to Fun City for tattoos from Brian Wilson aka Chuck. Nice guy!
  4. Walked around freshly buzzed from tats and checked out some shops. Search & Destroy ruled.
  5. Stumbled upon Odessa Café for very happy hour. Got lots of screwdrivers, and he mixed lots of vodka w/ orange juice for color. If you’re reading this and in NYC, go there.
  6. Left quite intoxicated and walked back to “The Square” to take R train back “home”.
  7. Got home, washed tattoos, ate some sour leftover cake and passed out

Tuesday 7/31/07

  1. Breakfast @ Duncan Donuts. Got half dozen stripe donuts and coffee. Good stuff.
  2. Went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It ruled and was our favorite museum by far. Waay too much to look at. Saw lots of breathtaking Jesus art and suits of armor.
  3. At around 4, got call from Late Show to be in the 8/1 audience! Yay!
  4. Dinner @ Mars 2112. Space ship escorted us to our tables to watch people in full body alien suits prancing around and trying to make children think they were really aliens and not humans just trying to make a living in NYC. Alien named “Q T Pi” gave our tattoos a thumb up.
  5. Walked through Central Park to write postcards. Walked to Strawberry Fields memorial. Was getting too dark and creepy so left to write cards in safety of hotel room.
  6. Took 1 train to Staten Island Ferry. Staten Island Ferry station kinda creepy. Hopped on ferry, sat on wrong side and only saw city lights from afar. Rode ferry back and stood on correct side, saw Lady Liberty. Hoo ha!
  7. Got incredibly lost finding train. Talked to very nice guard outside of Stock Exchange. Lots of bad wife jokes, lots of good tips. Told us how to get to ground 0. Walked through creepy area, saw ground 0. Somehow found way to train station. Blocks from our hotel, we were confronted by a dirty hooker who just got robbed w/ dirt/makeup all over her blouse. Ish.

Taco Tuesday Pictorial:

Wednesday 8/1/07

  1. Woke up and went to Guggenheim museum. Interesting swirly white place, but we were museumed out. Overheard woman lecturing on why blank paint on a canvas is so awesome. Give me a break, man.
  2. Went to Letterman taping! Saw Matt Damon, Robert Altman, and a singer (name escapes me). Studio was much smaller than it looks on tv and cold. Holy awesome.
  3. Headed to Angelos Pizzeria next to Late Show entryway.
  4. Walked off pasta. Ended up at Rockefeller Center where Conan and SNL are taped. Wow. Saw messy Today Show set and guys setting it up for the next morning. Really tiny studio.
  5. Walked back via 57th and while taking a break on 7th Ave, Colin Quinn from SNL passed us. Seemed to be in a hurry and/or drunk, and on his cell phone. Maybe listening to voicemail that was making him mad or something. Tried to follow him but lost him after a block. Cool nonetheless.
  6. Came home and watched David Letterman, which we had already seen just hours ago IN PERSON.

Wednesday's Images:

Thursday 8/2/07

  1. Went to Pedal Pushers to rent bikes. Biked through Central Park but was really too hot to truly enjoy it. But hey, we can say we did it!
  2. Dinner at John’s Pizzeria, built in an old church. Cool place, but seeing that churches are built to bounce sound all over the place, it was quite noisy.

Thursday in pictures:

Friday 8/3/07

  1. Went on Circle Line Cruise, traveled around bottom ½ of Manhattan Island – sounds cheesy, but definitely worth it at least once.
  2. Took the subway to JFK and boarded our plane. Bah. Sat on runway for 2 hours before finally taking off and getting back to Minneapolis.
